Avis de décès de Patricia-Webb Morris

<!-- FH = A.S. Turner and Sons --><!-- DisplayFullObituaryText -->PATRICIA (PAT) WEBB MORRISDECEMBER 28, 2014Decatur Girl, Pat Webb Morris, Former AJC Employee and LIteracy Specialist.Patricia (Pat) Webb Morris of Decatur, Georgia died Sunday, December 28 of esophageal cancer. Born at home in Stone Mountain on August 14, 1939 to Mary Goza Moore and William Amos Moore, Pat spent her childhood in her beloved Decatur, where she attended Winnona Park Elementary School. Her only sibling, Victor R. Moore, was born when she was seven. During Pat's freshmen year at Decatur High School, the family relocated to Lithonia, where her parents had purchased a farm and a general store. Pat helped her father run the store, learning how to operate the cash register and take delivery of fuel and other goods in her father's absence. After graduating from Lithonia High School in 1957, Pat began working for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Sunday magazine, where she enjoyed collaborating with such exuberant characters as Bob Connell, Floyd Jilson, Kenneth Rogers, and Andy Sparks, who edited the magazine. She simultaneously attended college at Georgia State University, pursuing an English degree. In 1959, she married Phillip Lee Webb of Lithonia, Georgia, and they moved back to Decatur. Five years later, they began a family and had two daughters, Elizabeth (Beth) Lee Webb and Diana Louise Webb. Pat then chose to be a stay at home mom and was active in Garden Club, PTA and the Band Parents' Association while bringing up her children. When her daughters were teenagers, Pat became active as the volunteer and conference coordinator for her church. Following her passion for reading, she moved to the Adult Basic Literacy Education (ABLE) ministry, which she and her dear friend and colleague, Connie Raiford, subsequently led for many years. This ministry provided children as well as adults with instruction from carefully trained tutors to improve their reading skills. Working in some of the most challenged neighborhoods in Atlanta at the time, including East Lake Meadows, ABLE established a reputation for providing excellent literacy services and was subsequently asked to furnish support to help students in Atlanta Public Schools meet grade level literacy targets. When then-United States Secretary of Education, Rod Paige, visited Atlanta, Pat was honored to have the opportunity to meet him and share her thoughts on effective teaching practices. In 1998, Pat lost Phil, her husband of 39 years to esophageal cancer. Two years later, she and long-time friend, Bob Morris, who had lost his wife the same year, were married. During ten years of happy matrimony, they traversed the globe on two world cruises and split their time between Decatur and Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, where they enjoyed sport fishing on the Gulf of Mexico on their Grady White, Patty's Wagon, which Bob mischievously named. They also loved spending time with their families, especially their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob passed away Easter weekend in 2010, following which, Pat returned to Decatur full-time, where she became active in the Druid Hills Civitan Club and enjoyed being involved in Decatur Presbyterian Church, where she was a member.Pat is survived by her daughters, Beth Webb and Diana Tallent, her sons-in-law, David Jones and Harold Tallent, her grandchildren, Nancy and Michelle Jones and Jake and Caitlin Tallent, her brother and sister-in-law, Vic and Connie Moore and her mother, Mary Moore. Visitation will be at A. S. Turner and Sons, located at 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, 30033, on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 4-6 pm. The memorial service will be held at Decatur Presbyterian Church at 205 Sycamore Street, Decatur, 30030, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2015, reception immediately following in the Fellowship Hall.
