Mary Katherine Fenton Hooper BRATTLEBORO Mary Katherine Fenton Hooper died September 28, 2009, at Thornwald Home in Carlisle, Pa. She was born in Brattleboro, the daughter of the late Edward J. Fenton Sr. and Mary Frances Higgins Fenton. She graduated from Brattleboro High School and Finch College in New York, N.Y. In 1941 Mary Kate moved to San Francisco and then Los Angeles, where she was a receptionist in Columbia Pictures' publicity department. In 1942, she returned to New York, working at This Week magazine and the federal Office of War Information. During World War II, she joined the American Red Cross; she was stationed at a Red Cross service club in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. After the war, she returned to San Francisco, where she worked for Fortnight magazine before returning to New York. In 1950 she met her future husband, Henry L. Hooper, through mutual friends. After their marriage, they lived near her sister, Frances Biddle, and her husband, Livingston L. Biddle Jr., in Bryn Mawr, Pa. They later settled in Camp Hill, Pa. For many years she was an administrative assistant and copy editor for the Harrisburg, Pa., advertising agency Edward C. Michener Associates. In her last years, she waged a gallant and graceful struggle against Parkinson's disease, showing courage, determination and a stubborn unwillingness to ever complain. She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Cathedral in Harrisburg. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry; her loving sister, Frances; and her brother, Edward. She is survived by her daughter, Susan, of Harrisburg; her son, Jonathan, of Camp Hill; her grandchildren, Spencer and Mason Hooper, of Camp Hill, and their mother, Cindy Yeiser; her sister, Patricia, of Washington, D.C.; her niece, Cordelia Biddle and her husband, Steve Zettler; her nephew, Livingston Biddle IV and his wife, Joan; her niece, Ann Hooper; and nephews, Jeff, Henry, William and Charles Edward Hooper.
