AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Montgomery Anderson, age 89, formerly of Smith Street, died on Thursday evening, January 16, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, January 20, 2003, from National Hills Baptist Church with Reverend Doug Bartlett officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Mrs. Anderson was born in Augusta, Georgia, educated in Richmond County Schools and graduated Junior College in Augusta. She lived in Blythe for 22 years before returning to Augusta. She was retired from the Richmond County Sheriffs Department and later worked as a Medical Assistant and Secretary. She was a Past President of the Richmond County Medical Assistants and served as President of the Georgia State Medical Association. She was a member of the American Business Womens Association. Mrs. Anderson was a Charter Member of the Hill Baptist Church and was a current member at National Hills Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Anderson, Jr., who passed away in 1992. She is survived by four nephews, Whatley and Betty Ann Scott, Marietta, Frank and Jean Howard, Augusta, Leck, III and Carol Montgomery, Hephzibah, Ted and Teresa Montgomery, Waynesboro, one niece: Jane and William Partridge, Hephzibah, her care givers, brother- in-law and sister-in-law, Clarence W. and Nell A. Holley, Wrens, and special friends, Billy and Catherine Baston, Harlem. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, January 19, at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 1134 Telfair Street, Augusta. Pallbearers will be Zane Gray, Billy Jones, Jerome Trapp, John Hoover, Kenneth Thompson and James Locke.
