Mary Claire Whitney Niskayuna Mary Claire Whitney (Weller), born on August 30, 1931, died after a long illness on May 10, 2014. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 60 years, Eugene; her children, Peter Whitney (Maria), Catherine Caruso (James), Elizabeth McKeone (Kurt) and Clark Whitney; and her grandchildren, Chris, John, Victoria, Cory, Tim and Katelyn. She was predeceased by her daughter, Cynthia Bacher; and her grandson, Ryan Whitney Bacher. Born in Malone, New York to Charlotte (Mageean) and Otis Weller, Mary graduated from St. Joseph's Ursuline Academy and worked as a telephone operator until her marriage. Mary was a kind and generous soul, a devoted wife and mother of five, who was known for her infectiously positive personality and joy for life. A lifelong lover of music, she was a gifted pianist who self-learned to play by ear. She was also a well-known master of the written word and a published author. Always an active member of her community, Mary served on several parent-teacher committees across the state of New York, chaired many church and school activities and was past president of the Daughters of the King. Her family mourns her loss, but will celebrate the memory of her extraordinary life in a memorial of loving remembrance on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 11 a.m. in St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Albany. All who loved her are invited to attend.
