VAN HOOK Marjorie M., former resident of Hawthorne, New Jersey who had resided in Cooperstown since 2004, died Thursday night, October 8, 2009 at Otsego Manor surrounded by the love of her family. She was 77. Born November 18, 1931 in Paterson, New Jersey, Marjorie was the daughter of Robert and Marion (Dorsey) Ford. A native of New Jersey, Marjorie graduated from Hawthorne High School and later attended Virginia Intermont College. On April 26, 1957, Marjorie married Robert Van Hook in a ceremony at Broadway Baptist Church in Paterson. During her years in New Jersey, Marjorie was employed in several office jobs for various businesses, and was last employed by Kaufman Carpet in Lodi. In 2004, she moved to Cooperstown to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Sammy Bayes and their family. She enjoyed her time in Cooperstown, and lived in an apartment on Walnut Street. While she maintained her membership in the Rea Avenue Reformed Church in Hawthorne, New Jersey, she devotedly attended the First Presbyterian Church in Cooperstown, and for a time enjoyed singing in the Chancel Choir. Marjorie was a devoted wife, mother, friend and Christian and embraced life each day by always offering a kind gesture, an encouraging word and the brightest smile in the world. Marjorie is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Bayes and her husband, Sammy, of Cooperstown, and Mrs. Nancy Foody and her husband, Jim, of Hewitt, New Jersey; three sons, Paul Van Hook of The Bronx, Jimmy Van Hook of Harriman, and John Van Hook of Pennsylvania; eleven grandchildren, Nicholas, Haley, James, Rebecca, Alexa, Taylor, Robbie, Skye, Sierra, Johnny, and Brianna; and one great grandson, Xander. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, who died in 1987. Calling hours will be offered at the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne, New Jersey, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. on Tuesday, October 13, 2009. A Funeral Service will be offered at 11 AM on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joe Colon, Pastor of the Rea Avenue Reformed Church in Hawthorne, New Jersey, officiating. Entombment will follow in Woodbridge Memorials Gardens Mausoleum in Woodbridge, New Jersey. In Cooperstown, a Memorial Service will be offered at the First Presbyterian Church in Cooperstown on Saturday, November 21, 2009. Marjorie's family suggests memorial contributions be made to Rea Avenue Reformed Church, Hawthorne, NJ or Cooperstown Presbyterian Church, Cooperstown, NY.
