Mary A. Burke, lifelong resident of Scarsdale, died Sunday, August 11, 2002 at Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel, NY. Born on June 22, 1925 in White Plains, NY, she was the daughter of Edward and Nellie Cunningham Burke. She was a communicant at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale. Mary was Executive Secretary at the Abex Corporation in Manhattan for many years, before retiring in 1987. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Bill Ward of Heritage Hills in Somers; sister-in-law Maria Wilderman Burke of Hempstead, NY; sister-in-law Vera Lux Burke of Ft. Myers, FL, 20 nieces and nephews, and many beloved cousins and grandnieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Edward Burke and Thomas Burke. Mary will be remembered by her family and friends for her love and devotion to the Catholic faith and her love of her family. Mary volunteered for the Library at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, and could often be found honoring the Lord at Eucharistic adoration. After organizing the Burke family reunion for many years, Mary became known as the family matriarch and historian. Her passionate interest in her Irish-American heritage was passed on to her nieces and nephews and their children. Arrangements are under the direction of the Edwin Bennett Funeral Home, 824 Scarsdale Avenue, Scarsdale. Viewing will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday, August 13. A funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Wednesday, August 14, at 9:45 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 8 Carman Road, Scarsdale, for the benefit of IHM School. EDWIN L.
