Wareham Louise F. (Porter) Burke, 89, died Monday, June 23, 2008, at the Forestview Nursing Home in Wareham. She was the wife of Francis Burke. Born in Brockton, a daughter of the late C. Harold and Ada (Bemis) Porter, she graduated from Brockton High School in 1936, where she was captain of the girl's basketball team. She attended Bouve College of Health Sciences at Northeastern University and earned her degree in physical therapy. She was formerly a physical therapist at Goddard Hospital in Brockton, the Brockton V.N.A. and she also practiced privately. A summer resident of Wareham since 1927, she moved year round to Parkwood Beach in 1975. She was past worthy advisor of Rainbow Girls, past president of the PM Club in Brockton, past president of the Parkwood Beach Assoc., and a member of the Porter Congregational Church, Brockton. Mrs. Burke was also a columnist for The Enterprise writing a summer column about Parkwood Beach in Wareham. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Debra L. Burke of Wareham; a son, Kevin P. Burke and his wife Suzanne of Wareham; a granddaughter, Ashley Burrill; a great-grandson, Cameron Quinn; her nephew, David Porter, MD, of Newton; and her nieces, Nancy Porter of Washington and Brenda Nolan of Falmouth. She was predeceased by her brother, Arthur L. Porter. Her funeral service will be held Thursday, June 26, at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rte. 28), Wareham, at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be Wednesday 3-6 p.m. Interment will be private.
