Leo Michael Smith Sept. 20, 1930 - Feb. 6, 2014 Moosup - Leo Michael Smith, 82, of Moosup died at home yesterday surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Dayville on September 20, 1930, son of the late James and Stella (Briere) Smith. He graduated from Plainfield High School in 1948 and Norwich Technical in 1950. Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Air Force for two years during the Korean Conflict. He was married to Marion Reilly on May 12, 1956. He was a transmission specialist employed by Wm. J. Smith & Griffin Olds Automotive and later owned Hilltop Auto Service in Danielson. Mr. Smith was a communicant of St. James Church in Danielson. He was a Lionel Train hobbyist, enjoyed fishing, music and spending time on Moosup Pond with his family. Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Michael W. Smith and wife Linda of Manchester, Leo M. Smith and wife Holly of Brooklyn, Patricia Sweet and husband Thomas of Voluntown, Susan Chartier and husband Nicolas of Danielson, Kathleen Savvidis and husband Abraham of Brooklyn, and Sandra Dean of Woodstock, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren and sister, Ann Smith of Pomfret. Funeral from Tillinghast Funeral Home, 433 Main Street, Danielson on Tuesday at 9:00 A.M. followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at St. James Church, Danielson at 10:00 A.M. Burial with Military Honors will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 P.M.
