Superintendent Larry Anderson, 49, Florence, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002.Visitation will be 10:30 a.m.-noon Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Florence-Lauderdale Coliseum. The funeral will be at noon Saturday, Nov. 16, at the coliseum, with burial in Greenview Cemetery. Officiating will be Bishop O.L. Meadown. Thompson and Son Funeral Home is directing.Superintendent Larry Anderson was born June 23, 1953, to William Anderson (deceased) and Jennie Lee Anderson. He was a lifelong Florence resident. He attended Burrell Slater High School and graduated from Coffee High School in 1969. In 1971, he attended the University of North Alabama, majoring in sociology. He received a certificate in Christian education from the Church of God in Christ (COGIC).Superintendent Anderson grew up in the Morrow Memorial COGIC (formerly Faith Temple), Florence. On July 26, 1979, he accepted and acknowledged his call to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and worked faithfully with his pastor, Supt. W.R. Morrow (deceased). He became an ordained elder in August 1982.On Oct. 11, 1983, he founded the New Life COGIC, Tuscumbia. He was also appointed to pastor the Morrow Memorial COGIC. On Feb. 27, 2002, the churches merged and became the Revival Center COGIC.Superintendent Anderson was a member of the General Board of Alabama Jurisdiction I (COGIC), state public relations chairman and superintendent of the W.R. Morrow District (COGIC). He served on the Florence Police Department Community Advisory Committee and previously was a member of the W.C. Handy Advisory Policy Council.He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife of 30 years, Etta Marie Anderson; daughters, Vanesha (Elder Patrick) Mason, Angela Anderson; son, Timothy Anderson; grandchildren, Jada Anderson and Isaac Mason, all of Florence; mother, Jennie Lee Anderson; sisters, Shirley Hudson, Rachel Williams, all of Zion, Ill.; brothers, Napoleon Mitchell, Florence, Pernell Anderson, Zion, Ill., and Peter (Barbara) Anderson, Dewitt, N.Y.; mother-in-law, Edna Ragland, Florence; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, other relatives and friends.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Revival Center COGIC Building Fund.
