JOHNSON _ Joyce It is with great sadness that the family of Joyce Johnson announces her sudden passing on July 12, 2006 at the age of 74 years. Joyce was born on February 18, 1932 in Windsor, Nova Scotia. She came to the western provinces in 1952 after completing a lab technician's diploma at Dalhousie University in Halifax. She first worked at the Colonel Belcher Hospital in Calgary as a lab technician and later found her niche in the geophysical processing field within Calgary's oil and gas business, culminating with an extended employ with Union Oil Company of Canada from where she retired in 1984. Joyce has spent her retirement years lovingly tending her garden, taking trips in the RV, knitting beautiful sweaters, hosting weekly bridge games and entertaining her vast circle of family, friends and extended family. Joyce was also actively involved with the Royal Canadian Legion, including two terms as president of the Sundre branch. Joyce will be remembered for her open door, her wonderful cooking and mostly for her strength of character and her ability and willingness to help others in times of need. Joyce was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother along with being a kind-hearted and life-long friend to many in the Calgary, Olds and Sundre regions. Joyce leaves behind her beloved husband, Robert (Bob) of thirty-seven years; her sons, Randy (Ruth) Lewis, Ron (Tina) Lewis; granddaughter Rosalynd (Michael) Zalewski. She will also be dearly missed by her family including her sister Audrey (Allan) Roy of Halifax, NS as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families throughout Canada and the United States. Joyce was predeceased by her parents, George and Hilda Patterson, along with her brothers, Charles, Conrad, Glenford, Roland, and Ronald as well as half-brother Horace and half-sister, Grace. Memorial Services will be held on Monday, July 17, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Sundre with Pastor Tim Kirby officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joyce's honor may be made directly to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta. As a tribute to Joyce Johnson, a tree will be planted in the Heartland Tree Memorial Park, Olds. HEARTLAND FUNERAL SERVICES LTD., Olds, entrusted with arrangements. Telephone: 1-403-507-8610.
