Joseph David Williams, age 89, passed away at his home on January 21, 2008. Mr. Williams was born in Bulloch County and moved to Savannah in 1940. He formerly owned and operated Williams Service Station on Montgomery Crossroads for 34 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. While serving his time, he was stationed in Japan. Mr. Williams was a member of Burkhalter Baptist Church, where he served as head chef, preparing Wednesday night meals for 100 people for 15 years. He also served as head of the Grounds Committee for 10 years. He was a good Christian man and a wonderful father and grandfather. Mr. Williams was married for 63 years to Janie Bowen Williams, who predeceased him. He is survived by his wife, Janelle Vining Williams; two daughters, Janice (Roy) Clarke of Statesboro and Linda (Rodger) Clay of Savannah; two brothers, Malcolm (Edwina) Williams of Savannah and George (Louise) Williams of Denmark, Ga.; one sister, Lulamae Trapnell of Register; four grandchildren, Will (Becky) Clarke, Jay Robert Clarke, Theresa Clarke and David Queen; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 22, 2008, from 4-6 p.m. at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home. Interment will be in Hillcrest Abbey. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
