Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Village Chapel Funeral Home for John David "PawPaw" Simmons, 60, Attalla, who died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007. The Revs. Larry Wade and Jon Wade will officiate. Burial in Noble Hill Cemetery. Village Chapel Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge.Mr. Simmons was born and reared in Attalla and was a 1965 graduate of Etowah High School. He worked as a salesman for Dolly Madison Cakes and Mrs. Kinser's Salads. His three grandchildren were the light of his life. David loved Alabama football and his wishes were for everyone to be dressed in Alabama colors at his funeral. Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Annie Lou Simmons.He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kay Simmons; children, Todd (Jane) Simmons and Kayla (Steve) Minton; grandchildren, Kimberly, Anna and Rebecca Simmons; sisters, Kathie (Larry) Wade and Linda Green; brother, Jim (Debbie) Green; a large, loving extended family; and special friend, David Colegrove, who was his best friend for 54 years.Pallbearers will be Rocky King, Rickey King, David Colegrove, Jimmy King, Charlie King, Larry Alderson and Kiley Green.Honorary pallbearers will be staff at St. Vincent's East, especially Dr. Mark Middlebrooks.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
