Joan M. Jacobus (nee Jackson), 82, of Little Falls, N.J., died April 30, 2014. Born in Paterson, N.J., on Oct. 13, 1931, Joan graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in 1949, then attended Berkeley Secretarial School in East Orange, N.J. She moved to Little Falls in 1960, and dedicated her early years to home and family. Later, she worked at various office jobs, and also ran her own business specializing in resume preparation. Joan devoted much time to causes she believed in. She had an article published in Redbook in 1964 which described her experiences as local coordinator for the Fresh Air Fund. She was active in the civil rights and anti-war movements, and worked for the Democratic Party. She met President Carter personally and she volunteered at President Clinton's 1992 convention in New York City. She was predeceased by her husband, William W. Jacobus Jr., and by her sister, Doris M. McGrath. Surviving are two children, Steven W. Jacobus and Linda Toscano; five grandchildren, Jaime Ricci, Travis Goldsmith, Stephanie Jacobus, Steven D. Jacobus, Jessica Toscano; and a great-granddaughter, Aryanna Ricci. Memorial service is private.
