Jean Lovell Davis was born Nov. 21, 1921, in Worcester, Mass., and died June 16, 2009, at Langdale Hospice House, Valdosta after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Felton Davis Jr. of Valdosta; her sister, Rebecca Lovell Roskowski of Grand Junction, Colo.; and her parents, Dorothy and Russell Lovell of Worcester. Mother is survived by her three children, Dorothy and Margaret of Valdosta and Felton III of New York City; her grandchildren, Megan Clements of Davis, Calif., and Aidan Hunt of Valdosta; and her dear mother-in-law, Jeanne Davis Rountree. She leaves her brother, Russell in Sandwich, Mass.; her brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Flora in Scotia, N.Y., and Hugh and Patty in Lancaster, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews. Mother's joy in life were people and their stories, babies everywhere and anything creative. Her paintings, sculpture, needlework, quilts reside in the homes of her family and friends. Her cookbooks are stuffed with annotated recipes and the dates when she used them to entertain. The collection of yearly Girl Scout Calendars tells the day to day tale of family life, community service, church work, travel, getting together with friends and milestones: D's first tooth, Rip's first steps, the birth of her first grandchild - "Megan Alexander, 7 lbs 13 oz, 1:25 a.m. Hurrah!" (Luke 6:38) A memorial service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church on Thursday, June 25 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Akers officiating.
