James A. Williams, of 108 Blue Ridge Drive, died December 19, 2008.Born June 19, 1938, in Dothan, Ala., he was the son of the late Virgil and Grace Shelley Williams. He married Dorothy Pointer and on September 19 they celebrated 50 years of marriage.Jim attended Howard College (Samford University) as a music major, then the University of Alabama as an engineering major. He came to Greenville with Sirrine Company in 1966, then CRSS and HOK. He was presently employed with The Gordian Group. Special thanks to CEO Harry Mellon and President Robert Coffey.Jim was an ordained minister of music who loved God and loved church music, and directed choirs for more than 40 years in and around South Carolina, locally including Reedy River Baptist, Marietta First Baptist, and Locust Hill Baptist. He retired from directing several years ago and attended Taylors First Baptist Church, where he was a choir member and deacon.His hobbies included working on genealogy, his family, church, travel, cruises, fellowship with friends and shopping with his wife.He is survived by his wife, Dot Williams; son, Dr. James A. Williams Jr., his wife, Beth, and grandchildren, Gray and Annie; daughter, Jan Williams Shore and grandson, Sam; and daughter, Joy Williams Hartsell, her husband Kent and grandchildren, Charlie, Grace and Hope.Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Taylors First Baptist Church, with Dr. Jimmie Harley, Dr. Frank Page and Dr. Carey Hedgepeth officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.The family would like to express thanks to the church staff, the Sunday School Class CoEd 25, and the membership of Taylors First Baptist Church for their wonderful prayer support for the last six months. Also, heartfelt thanks to Dr. Brian McKinley, the many physicians, residents and nurses who attended to him in the last six months, and Dr. Gary Spitzer, oncologist. All of these used their knowledge to support Jim, but God in His mercy needed to take him home with Him.Memorials may be made in Jim's memory to Taylors First Baptist Church, 200 W.
