GREENLAND — James R. Glennon, 52, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at his home with family and friends by his side.Born on Dec. 10, 1958 in Bethesda, Md., Jim graduated from Princeton University in 1981. He earned his medical degree from Tufts Medical School and began a 25-year career serving health care needs in New Hampshire's Seacoast community. Jim began his medical career as an internist in Hampton. Most recently, he spent a decade as the first medical director of Core Physicians at Exeter Health Resources at Exeter Hospital. "First of all," said his sister, "Jim was a dad." He loved his four children beyond measure, and the very last trip he made was to see his youngest daughter perform in a competition. The last photographs he took were at that performance. He was a tireless Boy Scout troop leader; a Little League, softball, and soccer coach; a field trip chaperone to locations as far away as Orlando and Puerto Rico; and a constant presence at his children's events. His son, Noah, remembers his immense wisdom: "He seemed to always know the right thing to do." Jim was unflappable in adversity, with his devilish sense of humor evident even in his very last days. He remained hopeful throughout an arduous and ultimately unsuccessful battle against pancreatic cancer, striving throughout to spend the best quality time he could with his wife and children, as well as other family and friends. Jim's boss observed that one "can tell the values of a man by the company he keeps." The company Jim kept included loyal friends, many of them also colleagues, whose love and support carried him and his family through his terminal illness and allowed him to come home to die while always under the care of people who loved him. Jim is survived by his wife, Stephanie R. (Martin) Glennon; his children, Samuel, Noah, Emma, and Suzannah Glennon, all of Greenland; his parents, Richard M. and Jacqueline (Nicknair) Glennon of Hampton; his sisters and their husbands, Denise and Gary Haubold of Malvern, Pa., Mary Ann and Danny Van Roosendaal of Wilmington, Mass., Elizabeth and Michael Sullivan of Haverhill, Mass., Catherine and James Murphy of Lexington, Mass.; his parents-in-law, Paul C. and Anne (Bradley) Martin of Belmont, Mass.; his brothers-in-law, Peter Martin of Chicago, Ill., Daniel Martin and his wife, Laurel, of Sudbury, Mass.; and numerous nieces and nephews.A memorial service in his honor will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, at the Phelps Sanctuary, Phillips Church, in Exeter, N.H.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SeaCare Health Services in Exeter.
