-> James Frederick, 76, of Savannah, GA, died Sunday February 22, 2004, at his residence under Hospice care. He was born in Savannah but lived most of his life in New York City where he retired as a bus mechanic for the New York Transit Authority for thirty years. He was educated in the Chatham Public School System, received a Certificate in masonry from Savannah State College as part of the VA program. He served a number of years in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Jennie Frederick; two brothers, Thomas and Frank Frederick; and one sister, Frances Louise Frederick. While living in New York City, James was a member the Southern Baptist Church where he served as chief usher. On moving back home he became a member of the St. Phillip Monumental A.M.E. Church, where he participated in the Sons of Allen and Men's Bible Study Group as well as a member of the Men's McDonald Breakfast Club. He was also a member of the American Legion Po st #500, the Waldorf Men's Social Club, the Joppa Lodge #55 in N.Y.C., and the Eureka Lodge # 1 in Savannah, GA. James enjoyed cooking for others and was best known for his expertise in cooking "Fried Fish". He was an ardent traveler, who enjoyed exploring the beauty of this country. His "expert" opinions and know how on any and all subjects was the essence of his character. He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Frederick, of Savannah, GA.; two sons, Ralph Joyner of Virginia Beach, VA and James "Tony" Frederick, of New York City; one daughter, Patrice Frederick, of New York City; one step-daughter, Tonya M. Robinson, of Jacksonville, FL; two adopted sons, Roosevelt Joyner and Keith Blackshear of New York City; a sister, Janice Walter, of Savannah, GA; Special attending friends during his illness, Esther Chisholm, Robert Beckton, Harry Ladsen, and Fred Thompson of Savannah, GA; four nieces, Kim Albright, of Dallas, TX, Gloria Richardson, of Savannah, GA, Karen Bruins of Spanaway, Was hington, and Sylvia Walter of Atlanta, GA. seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, and several great nieces and nephews. Visitation: 6:00-8:00p.m. Wednesday, at the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the St. Phillip Monumental A.M.E. Church . Interment will be at 2:00p.m. Thursday at the Beaufort National Cemetery Beaufort, South Carolina. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice Savannah Inc.; 1352 Eisenhower Dr. Savannah, GA 31406.
