Jackie Smith, Jackie Wayne Smith, age 59, born on February 6, 1955, passed away May 19, 2014 after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was originally from Alabama and moved to Sarasota with his family at 15. He graduated from Sarasota High School, as MVP for baseball and attended FSU on a full baseball scholarship. Later, he was drafted by The Chicago White Sox with a pitch-ing speed of 93 mph. He remained a sports lover all his life and was an avid fisherman whose greatest pleasure was taking the boat out. He was a well respected businessman who owned Traditional Framing and Drywall. We will treasure our memories of Jackie, who had a sense of humor that was never at someone's expense. He is predeceased by his father, mother and sister; Edward B., Francis D., and Cathy D. Smith. He is survived by his brother, Roger Smith and his daughter Kaitlyn, fiancé Sharon Taylor, Sharon's family, daughter Sarah Smith, niece Athena Nicole Smith, and her children; Steven, Demond, and Demia, along with numerous relatives and friends. Family and friends may pay their respects at Selby Gardens at 811 So. Palm Ave., Sarasota, June 8, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Mote Marine.
