SMITH, JOSEPH MICHAEL, 37Ocala - Mr. Joseph Michael Smith, 37, of Ocala, died April 18, 2014, as a result of an automobile accident. Born in Orlando, Mr. Smith was raised in Ocoee. After graduating from High School, he joined the U.S. Army, where he served for 4 years. After his discharge, he went on to obtain a degree in business administration from Columbia Southern University. At the time of his death he was working as a corrections officer at Lowell Correctional Institution. His hobbies including target shooting, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Ana Cristina Smith, his son Cristian Rojas, his daughter Josiphine Smith, and his mother Vivian Smith. His father Michael Smith passed away last month. Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held at 1:30 PM Friday, May 2, 2014, at Florida National Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Peter G. Wilkinson, with honors provided by the Honor Guard from Lowell Correctional Institution. Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., is handling arrangements.
