LABELLE, Reverend Father J. Philippe, Passed peacefully at the Port Colborne General Hospital on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at the age of 85. He will be dearly missed by his sisters-in-law Ann Labelle, Yvonne Labelle and by his brother-in-law Herbert McCrea. Survived by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, 8 brothers and 4 sisters. Father Labelle was born in Toronto, ON on February 10, 1919. He was baptized February 16, 1919 at Sacre Coeur Church in Quebec. Father Labelle was ordained December 21, 1946 in Montreal by Archbishop Charbonneau for the Order of the Cistercians of the Strict Observance. He was a Trappist Monk who served as Novice Master, Retreat Master and Guest Master at La Trappe de Notre Dame du Lac, La Trap pe, Quebec. He served at Our Lady of the Prairies, St. Norbert, Manitoba from 1966 to 1967. Father Labelle was incardinated into the Diocese of St. Catharines in 1971. He served as Associate Pastor in many parishes including: Immaculate Conception Pa rish, St. Catharines 1967-1968, St. John Bosco, Port Colborne, 1968-1970, Holy Rosary, Thorold 1970-1973, Our Lady of the Scapular, Niagara Falls, 1973-1975, St. Kevin's Welland 1975-1976. He served as Pastor of St. Therese of Lisieux, Port Colborne from 1976 until April 1986 when he retired. He was actively involved in ministry throughout his retirement. Visitation will take place at St. Therese of Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, 379 Fares Street, Port Colborne on Thursday, August 12th from 9 a. m. - 9 p.m. Vigil prayers will be offered at 7:30 p.m. in the Church. The Funeral Mass will be on Friday, August 13th at St. Therese of Lisieux Church, Port Colborne at 11:00 a.m. Rite of Committal to follow at Mount St. Joseph Cemetery in Port Colbo rne.
