Funeral service for Hellen Joyce Thompson, 73, will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Gray Brown-Service Chapel with Pastor Darryl League officiating. Burial will follow at Union United Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Thompson passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at her residence. Survivors include one daughter, Evangeline "Van" Spears; two sons, Timothy Mize and Bruce Clements; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Adams and Elizabeth Chapman. Mrs. Thompson is preceded in death by her father, Walter G. Thompson; mother, Amanda Lera Finch; sister, Nettie T. Johnson; brothers, Robert G. Thompson and Melvin Ross Owens and granddaughter, Jennifer Nichole Mize. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Mrs. Thompson was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County.
