Helen M. Carey, of East Bridgewater died on March 4 at the age of 86. Helen was the loving daughter of the late Carl O. R. and Mary A. Smith and grew up on Smith Farm in East Bridgewater. She was a graduate of East Bridgewater High School Class of 1942 and married the late Philip E. Carey in 1947. They built their own house in East Bridgewater where they raised their family. Helen was a homemaker at heart and worked for many years at HP Hood Company as a clerk and supervisor. Her passions were cooking, gardening, sewing, and deep sea fishing. In her later years, Helen was the loving companion of Gerald Wile. Helen is survived by her daughter Kathleen Gillette of Colorado and Colleen Rosenberg and her husband Andre of East Bridgewater, her grandchildren Katie, Meghan, Matt, Tangeree and great-grandson Jaatari. She was sister to the late Raymond Smith, Hazel Sawicki, Carlton Smith, and Richard Smith. A funeral home service will be held on Thursday, March 10 at 9:30 a.m. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford Street, Bridgewater. Burial will be held privately at the VA National Cemetery in Bourne on Friday. Donations in Helen's memory may be sent to the Philip E.
