Mr. Gordon Alfred Simmons September 27, 1944 - November 19, 2004 Funeral arrangements by V J McGilivray Funeral Homes (Glace Bay) GORDON “GORDIE” SIMMONS 1944 – 2004 GLACE BAY We regret to announce the sudden passing of Gordon Alfred Simmons age 60 of MacIntyre’s Lane, Glace Bay. Gordie passed away suddenly Friday, November 19, 2004 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay he was the son of Pearl (Smith) Simmons and the late Calvin Simmons. Gordie was employed with Devco for 33 years retiring in 1996 from Phalen Colliery. As a hobby, Gordie did a lot of “backyard” mechanic work along side his son-in-law, Greg who shared a mutual love of machinery. He also had a daily ritual of walking at the Dominion beach with his companion, Morgan. Gordie will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Judy (Walker), two chosen children, Susanne (Greg) MacIntyre, Ryan (Kim) O’Regan, three chosen grandchildren, Papa’s Angels, Jessica, Justin and Jillian MacIntyre, his constant companion, Morgan, brother and best friend, George (Barbara) Simmons, mother, Pearl Simmons, three children Beverly (Ronnie) Penny, Lynn (Tyler) Baxter, son, Reginald (Marie) Simmons, four grandchildren, Courtney & Kendra Penny, Drew & Bret Baxter, brothers, Jim (Tina), Gerald (Cathy), mother-in-law, Connie Walker, sister-in-law, Kathy, brothers-in-law, Bobby & Donnie Walker, aunt, Babe Angelo, uncle, Fred (Roni) Simmons. Besides his father, he was predeceased by father-in-law, Peter Walker, sister-in-law, Mary MacPherson, uncle, Bert Angelo and nephew, Jason Simmons. There will be no visitation for Mr. Simmons. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at 11 a.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Captain Jamie Hillier and Fr. Jim Oliver will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gordie’s memory may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation or a charity of choice.
