AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Gloria T. Williams, Ph.D., of Richwood Drive entered into rest on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at her residence. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Clyde Hill, Sr. officiating. Burial will be at Mitchell Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Cuthbert, GA. Mrs. Williams, a native of Georgetown, GA, received her Bachelor of Science degree from Fayetteville State University in 1979, a Master of Arts degree from North Carolina Central University in 1982 and a Doctor of Philosophy from University of South Carolina in 1998. From 1991-2008, she was an associate professor and coordinator of history at Paine College. In 2010, she was employed as a part time faculty member at Augusta Technical College. As a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she had served as Director of Church in Training, Co-Director of Political Action Committee, and teacher for Sunday School class #2. Some of her numerous current and former affiliations include President of Eta Theta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., First Vice President of Augusta Branch of the NAACP, member and Chairperson of the Administrative Committee for Savannah River Site Citizens Advisory Board, Vice President of Southern Conference of African American Studies, member of the Capital City Bank and Trust Co. Toastmasters Club. Survivors are one daughter, LaKeisha Williams-Spencer and her husband, Delontee, Suitland, MD; one son, Orenthal D. Williams, Sr. and his wife, Valarie, Cockeysville, MD; brothers, Jonnie Will Taylor and his wife, Dianne, Augusta, Nathaniel Taylor and his wife, Patricia, Cuthbert, GA; sisters, Versie Moore, Eva M. Taylor, Cuthbert, GA; grandchildren, Sadara James, Statesboro, GA, India Rogers, Orenthal Williams, Jr., Chiquandra Williams, Cockeysville, MD, Kenya Spencer, Kianna Spencer, Delontee Spencer, Suitland, MD; great grandchildren, Shyterrious James, Statesboro, GA, Elijah Williams, Cockeysville, MD ; god sisters, Janace Gilbert, Cassandra Williams, Cuthbert, GA; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
