BRATTLEBORO -- Gertrude Helen LaPlante, 79, died peacefully on Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at the Thompson House in Brattleboro, after a long illness. She was born May 26, 1927, in Boston, the daughter of the late Philip and Amy (Bradley) Suter.Mrs. LaPlante received her early education in Boston schools. In 1956, she married Francis A. LaPlante in Connecticut, where they lived for many years before relocating to Hinsdale, N.H. She was a mother and a homemaker. She was also a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church. Mrs. LaPlante came to Brattleboro in the early 1980s. She was artistic and enjoyed painting in watercolor, was an avid reader and had an affinity for cats. Mrs. LaPlante is survived by two sons, Clifford A. LaPlante of West Brattleboro, William D. LaPlante of Newport, N.H., a sister Amy Wilson of White River Junction, two grandchildren Jeremy M. LaPlante, Brooke V. LaPlante and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including a special niece, Suzie Wilson, and a special nephew, Steve Wilson. She was predeceased by a brother, Philip H. Suter. Funeral services for Mrs. LaPlante will be on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Brattleboro. Burial will follow at the Prospect Hill Cemetery also in Brattleboro. Friends are invited to the calling hours on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the KER-WESTERLUND & FLEMING FUNERAL HOME, 57 High St., Brattleboro.For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to The Thompson House Nursing Home Activities Fund.u
