George J. Williams, 83, died Monday, April 19, 2010, at his home in Warren. A memorial service will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood, on Saturday at 12 noon. Born in Elizabeth, Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Barbara Fisher Williams. He resided in Plainfield before moving to Warren in 1976. He also maintained a residence in Vero Beach, Fla. Mr. Williams was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army at General MacArthur's headquarters in the Philippines. Upon graduation from University of Illinois with a B.S. in architectural engineering, he began a 30-year career as an architect in Plainfield, retiring in 1991. Mr. Williams served as a member of the Plainfield Board of Appeals, the Warren Planning Board and the Advisory Board of Garden State Savings & Loan in Plainfield. He was also a member of the Moorings Club in Vero Beach and a member and former board member of Plainfield Country Club.
