Father Emile-Joseph Gaston Masse 1919 2011 Fr. Gaston Masse was born on December 28th, 1919 in Saint-Sylvere, Quebec. His parents were Jeffrey Masse and Eva Dubois. He had four sisters and six brothers and is survived by Nicole Masse, Bruno Masse and Gabriel Masse. He studied for the priesthood at the Seminaire de Nicolet, Quebec. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 16th, 1946 in Montreal, as a member of the Priests of Sainte-Marie. Fr. Gaston arrived in the Diocese of Prince Albert soon after his ordination. He served faithfully in numerous parishes including Hudson Bay, St. Brieux, Tisdale, Melfort, St. Front, and Zenon Park. He joined the Diocese of Saskatoon in June 1970, and ministered in the parishes of Vanscoy, Milden, Radisson, Blucher, Beechy, and Vonda. He retired at St. Paul's Cathedral on January 7th, 2000. The last years of his life were spent at Mazenod Residence, the Oblate retirement home in Saskatoon. Fr. Gaston died on Thursday, November 17th, 2011 surrounded by good and long time friends. The people of the Diocese would like to thank the Oblate community and the nursing staff for the wonderful care that he received. Fr. Gaston was noted for his ministry to recovering alcoholics. Anyone who would meet him would come away with the impression that they just left a kind and gentle person. He was very generous with both his time and resources and always exercised this generosity in a quiet and unassuming manner. We invite your prayers of thanksgiving for this good and faithful minister of the Gospel. A Vigil of Prayer will be held on Monday, November 21 at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 22 at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be held at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Cathedral, (Spadina Cres.
