DAVIS, Earl John 79, of Lake Panasoffkee, FL passed away peacefully on April 11, 2013 surrounded by family and friends. He died at the VA Medical Center in Gainesville after a short battle with cancer.Earl was born Feb. 4, 1934 in Canandaigua,NY and graduated from Canandaigua High School in 1952. He enlisted in the Navy and was a combat veteran of the Korean War. He was a 1st gunner on the USS Newport News and a member of the Underwater Demolition Team. After his years in the Navy he lived in Fairport, NY and graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in engineering. For many years he lived in Clayton, NY and was a self-employed contractor. He loved being on the St. Lawrence River and used his Navy skills to become a professional diver. He also devoted many years to the Thousand Islands Rescue Squad as an EMT and ambulance driver. After moving to Lake Panasoffkee he became very active as a member of the Moose Lodge where he received many honors and awards including Legionnaire and Moose of the Year and the Fellowship Degree.Earl was an animal lover and especially enjoyed cats. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer spending many good times in the woods near Pulaski, NY and the St Lawrence River. Earl was also an excellent dancer and never missed a dance at the Moose Lodge or at the Lake Panasoffkee Rec. Park where his long time friends Donny and Sandy Colf played their "Sounds of Nashville". For years Earl belonged to the Old Time Fiddlers Association and played guitar with them. Mr. Davis was predeceased by his wife Helen in 2007 and also by a sister, Shirley, in 1993.Earl is survived by two brothers, Ray and Frank Davis of Canandaigua, NY; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Goff of Astatula, FL; several nieces and nephews; and the love of his life Andrea Guy of Lake Panasoffkee and Cortland, NY. As Earl wished there will be no calling hours but a memorial service will be held on a date to be announced at the Moose Lodge in Lake Panasoffkee.
