DOROTHY M. GOODWINDorothy M. (Kilton) Goodwin, 85, of Manchester, died September 24, 2010, at a Manchester hospital, following a brief illness. She was born October 3, 1924, in Bedford, a daughter of Earle L. and Vera Putnam Kilton. She attended Manchester West High School and Hesser Business College, and worked as a bookkeeper in her father's business, Kilton's Wholesale Meats, until her marriage, in 1946, to David P. Goodwin of Manchester.An active member of the Manchester community, Mrs. Goodwin had been involved with the Elliot Hospital for over 60 years, as a member of the Elliot Hospital Associates and the "Voluntaires" singing group, and as a Trustee of the hospital, for almost 30 years. She also had served as a member of the Board of Directors and a volunteer for the Visiting Nurse Association.For many years, she had been a regular volunteer in the offices of NH Special Olympics and the Greater Manchester United Way and, with her husband, had chaired annual fundraising campaigns for the former Community Chest (now Granite United Way), and the Manchester Chapter of the American Red Cross; they also chaired an earlier capital campaign for the former Manchester Boys Club. Although she never sought recognition, she was honored by the Elliot Hospital when she received the Robert and Lucille Davison Philanthropy Award and by the Manchester Rotary Club when they recognized her community volunteerism by presenting her with a Paul Harris Award and, with her husband, was honored by Heritage United Way with the William S. Green Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2008, Easter Seals NH honored their commitment when they renamed their board room the David P. and Dorothy M. Goodwin Board Room. She was a member and former deacon of the First Congregational Church.Mrs. Goodwin was an active grandparent at the Derryfield School and attended all of her grandchildren's athletic events, both in New England and abroad.Members of her family include her husband of 64 years, David P. Goodwin of Manchester, three children, Marilyn Soper and her husband, Bruce, of Keene; Ellie Cochran and her husband, David, of Manchester and Charles S. Goodwin and his wife, Jaye, of Manchester; seven grandchildren, Katharine Leinwand and her husband, Eric, of Westport, Connecticut; Lieutenant Commander, David N. Taft, USN, and his wife, Lieutenant Commander Courtney P. Taft, USN, of San Diego, California; Sarah P. Cochran of Manchester; Andrew D. Cochran of West Hartford, Connecticut; C. Robbins "Robb" Goodwin of Manchester; Lauren K. Goodwin of New York City; and Carolyn C. Goodwin of Manchester; two great-grandsons, Joshua and Zachary Leinwand; three sisters, Madeline K. Beck and her husband, Edward, of Bedford; Barbara A. Jones and her husband, Bruce, of Venice, Florida; and Beryl P. Samia and her husband, Gerald, of Wells, Maine; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Lane Kilton, in 1962, and a sister, Eleanor K. Jenkins, in 2009.Calling hours for Mrs. Goodwin will be held at the Goodwin Funeral Home, 607 Chestnut Street, corner of Harrison Street, Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M.The funeral service will be held at the First Congregational Church, 508 Union Street, corner of Hanover Street, Wednesday morning at 11:00 A .M.
