Doris CoxBERLIN - Doris "Doree" Caroline Schulze Cox, 85, of Dutch Church Road died on Wednesday March 14, 2012 at the family farmhouse built by her great-grandfather. Doree was born in Willimantic, Conn., daughter of the late August and Clara DeFreest Schulze and was wife of the late Roger F. Cox. She attended the University of Connecticut, graduated from Russell Sage College, taught fourth grade at Albany Academy for Girls and raised blueberries.Doree had an adventuresome spirit which involved travel, horses, and camping with her daughters, grandchildren and friends. As a child she explored Storrs, Conn. on her pony; took a three-month bicycle tour of worn torn Europe in 1950; camped through Europe with her daughters in 1962; rented a horse-drawn tinker wagon in Ireland; rode ponies in Iceland and her final trip in February- camping in the Virgin Islands. She loved knowledge, genealogy and meeting people. She volunteered at the information booth in Williamstown, Mass. and was a member of historical societies, book groups, Taconic Hiking Club, Rensselaer Land Trust and the Rensselaer Plateau Alliance.Doree will be missed by her daughters; Cheryl (Vincent) Perrone of Bainbridge Island, Wash. and Karen Cox (John Bergeron) of Chittenden, Vt.; her grandchildren, Andrew and Claire Perrone; extended family and her many friends.Doree requested that no formal services be held. An open house to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday April 14, 1-4 p.m. at the family farm. Please bring cookies and stories to share.
