ARMSTRONG Doris B., age 89, of New Paltz, NY, formerly of Ridgewood, NJ, and South Bend, IN, died on Monday, October 28, 2013 at Woodland Pond at New Paltz, NY. She died peacefully, surrounded by her family. Born on September 14, 1924, in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of Conrad and Mary (Neely) Bollinger. She married Wayne Armstrong on February 2, 1946, in Greencastle, IN, and they lived in South Bend, IN, and then in Ridgewood, NJ. Wayne worked for Studebaker and then for Mercedes Benz, retired in 1985, and predeceased Doris on December 21, 2004. Doris also retired in 1985 from Pascack Valley High School, Montvale, NJ, where she was an English teacher. Wayne and Doris were among the founders of the First Unitarian Church, South Bend, IN, and long time active members of the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood, NJ. Surviving are one sister, Irma Jo Sutton of Fort Atkinson, WI, one daughter, Rebecca Armstrong of Highland, NY, two sons, Tom Armstrong of Silver Spring, MD, and David Armstrong of Lexington, MA, and six grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Wayne, she was predeceased by a daughter, Christine Hamann, in 1997. A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood, New Jersey, 113 Cottage Place, Ridgewood, NJ 07450 on January 18, 2014, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
