Dixie Annette Goodin (Gearing) was born in Springfield, Missouri, on December 20, 1933, to Irvin Levi and Vivian Penn Gearing and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 12, 2010. Except for a brief time in Ventura, California, during World War II, Dixie grew up in Springfield. She attended Springfield Public Schools and graduated from Springfield Senior High School. She went on to attend Southwest Missouri State College where she was active in the Baptist Student Union and Bruin Boosters. She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. Dixie taught at Holland and Fairbanks Elementary Schools in Springfield and also in Junction City, Kansas. Dixie Gearing and Robert H. Goodin were married on December 23, 1956, in College Street Baptist Church, where, as a teenager, Dixie trusted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized. To this union were born four daughters, In retirement, Bob and Dixie spent many months in Sun City West, Arizona, where they are members of Grand Community Baptist Church. Prior to this, they were longtime members of First Baptist Church in Springfield. Dixie spent her life on others. She quit working in order to raise her family, a teaching job that never ended. She was active in her church and community, often taking on jobs that no one else seemed to want and doing each on extremely well-Girl Scout leader, Pre-school Sunday School teacher, Committee Chairman, Costume Designer/Seamstress for high school musicals, Restaurant Manager and others too numerous to mention. She was past president of the Ladies' Central Arizona Golf Asociation and held every office possible in the Pebblebrook Lady Niners of Sun City West. Dixie was a gifted artist, an avid golfer and a fabulous cook. She was a great friend. Her greatest desire, expressed during her days of illness, was that those she loved and those who cared for her would place all their trust in Jesus, making sure of their place in heaven with her. She will be deeply and truly missed by her family and many friends. Who will pray for us like she did? Dixie is survived by her husband, Robert H.
