OBITUARY DANIEL EBBERT DONNELLY The 500% Man Peacefully in Ottawa, December 22, 2007 after a long struggle with leukemia. Dan will be sadly missed by his loving wife and soul mate Rita (nee Shanahan) to whom he was married for 52 years, his beloved children Tom (Alison Ball), Jim (Christine Albert) and Maureen (Peter Bouzanis), his brother Michael (Ann) of London, Ontario and sisters Mary Ann (Carlevale) of Tampa, Florida and Sandra (Andre LeBlanc) of Deux Montagnes, Quebec. Loving granddad to Ryan, Danny, Melissa, Angela, Sarah, Emma, Daniel and Kate. On any day of the week, any time of the day, when asked, "How are you?" Dan would answer, "500%! Not good, not great, not 100%, but always 500%!" Why this answer? Dan knew he had a great life, a fun life, full of joy created by his family, his love of his business, and great friendships. Dan was born in Montreal, Quebec, April 20, 1930, he was fortunate enough to travel all over the world playing golf and laughed with a lot of great guys he met along the way! Dan loved and enjoyed people and took a genuine interest in everyone he met. He often said he never met a person he didn't like. Dan was a longstanding member of the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club, Caves Valley Golf Club, Gator Creek Golf Club and Laurel Oak Golf Club and prior to 1973 the Rivermead Golf Club. Dan began his business career with International Harvester in 1954 and in 1956 transferred to Ford Motor Company as a truck specialist. In 1963 he moved to Ottawa as a sales manager for Ottawa Motor Sales and in 1970 bought the company. This began a long and prosperous relationship with Ford Motor Company. During his career Dan played an active role in many organizations including the Rotary Club of Ottawa South, Ottawa Crime Stoppers, Ford of Canada Dealer Council, President of the Ottawa Better Business Bureau, Transport Action Leasing and was awarded Time Quality Dealer of the Year in 1992 for his overall contribution to the automotive industry. What Dan started as a small Ford dealership has branched out into the Donnelly Automotive Group which encompasses Donnelly Ford Lincoln, Donnelly Pontiac Buick, Donnelly Mitsubishi and Donnelly Kia. When asked about his career Dan would say, "I never worked a day in my life, I never had a job; what I did have was a passion, a passion for the car business. It defined me, educated me, took me around the world, it introduced me to people, places and concepts I would never have discovered on my own. The car business allowed me to have more fun than I imagined possible!" Dan had great leadership qualities and a great attitude and near the end said, "I've had a great run, a great life. I had it great! I met great people, had a lot of fun, and I want people to remember me in their hearts, in their laughter, remember the fun we had together. ou stay alive in the hearts and minds of the people left behind." The family wishes to thank Dr. Melissa Forgie and Dr. Louise Coloumbe and their teams for their caring devotion during this difficult time. Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home 3000 Woodroffe Ave (Barrhaven) Wednesday and Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held Friday December 28, 2007 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 194 Fourth Avenue at 10:30 am.
