BATH -- Doris Hunter Cox, 87, formerly of Harpswell, died Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Winship Green Nursing Facilities, Bath, because of her increasing dementia.She was born in Augusta, Feb. 14, 1926, the daughter of Victor and Edna Brewer McCourtney. She attended Augusta schools and graduated from Cony High School in 1944. She was employed as a telephone operator until she started a family. She married David Hunter in 1945. They owned and operated Hunter's Market in Augusta and then she became a minister's wife following him to Stockton Springs, Oakland, and then to South Harpswell.Mrs. Cox owned and operated Needle Mania on Maine Street, Brunswick. After retirement, they moved to Augusta. The Rev. Hunter died in January 1996. She married Ronald Cox in 2006 and returned to the Brunswick area. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but as her memory faded only remembered her first great-great-grandchild. She is survived by a daughter, Betty McCausland, and her husband, Lloyd, of Brunswick; grandchildren David McCausland, of Lisbon, and Heidi Lewis, of Kansas; great-grandchildren Ashleigh Brumet and Joey Lewis, of Kansas; great-great-grandchildren Jaxon, Kayleigh and Greyson Brumet, and Makaela Lewis, of Kansas; and a sister, Bettie Ayer, of Portland.A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 27, at the Elijah Kellogg Church, Harpswell Center with the Rev. John Carson officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 21, in Forest Grove Cemetery, Winthrop Street, Augusta.
