AUGUSTA -- Donald Lawrence "Beau" Whitney, of Augusta, died unexpectedly May 22, 2013.He was born in Portland on Sept. 25, 1942, to Donald Paul Whitney and Thelma Irene Clarke. He graduated in 1961 from Cony High School. He went to Husson College, briefly working at Mutual Lumber Co. with his father and uncle while taking flying lessons. He started working at Air New England in approximately 1965, starting as a ticket agent and advanced to becoming a commercial pilot. He LOVED flying and went on to work for Bar Harbor Airlines, Continental Express and Continental Airlines, from which he retired in 2002. He worked at The Home Depot briefly and at the time of his death worked part-time at Whipper's Pizza. He was a social butterfly and told countless jokes. He loved going to lawn sales with his sister, Sheila, and golfing, as well as spending time with his family. They were all very important to him, and their happiness meant the world to him. He will always be remembered for his friendly, fun personality. He will be greatly missed by many, especially by his golfing wing man, Steve Brennan. He was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Thelma Whitney. He is survived by his two children, Thor, and his wife, Michele, and daughter Heidi Delp and her husband, Darin, both of Chelsea; sisters Sheila Brennan and her husband, Steve, of Augusta, Jane Malinowski and her husband, Armand, of West Gardiner, and Judy LeClair, and her husband, Dan, of Falls Church, Va.; brother Thomas, of Augusta; his four grandchildren, Erica, Nick, Sophie and Zach; and many nieces and nephews. There will be no public visiting hours. A service/gathering will be held at a later date.
