<!-- FH = Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown -->Christina Maria Parker, 47, wife of Michael Thomas Parker, died Saturday, January 8, 2011 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Worcester, MA, she was the daughter of Birgitta Reynolds and the late Gerald Francis Reynolds. Christina graduated from Travelers Rest High School, Western Carolina University, USC Graduate College of Social Work - MSW, and completed the Clemson-Furman MBA program. She dedicated her life to helping others as a social worker and worked for many years as director of the Upstate Alzheimer's Society, Greenville Chapter. Chris later founded and directed the Care-Connection, a non-profit geriatric case management organization located in Spartanburg. She was tirelessly dedicated to her family, and was an advocate for educating the medical and political communities through her many seminars and fundraising activities for Alzheimer disease, mental health, cancer support groups and senior citizen issues. Chris served as board member and/or officer of many organizations such as the Upstate SC Gerontological Society, National Association of Social Workers, NASW-SC Committee on Aging and Government Affairs, Nu-Voice Club, and F.A.C.T fight against cancer organization. Later in life she performed as a competitive ball room dancer, her cherished hobby. Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are her beloved daughter Emma Frances Parker, sister, Elisabet Rainey, sisters-in-law Kelley Reynolds and Peggy Parker, her brother Owen Reynolds, and brothers-in-law Dean Rainey III, John E. Parker, and H. Charles Parker. She was preceded in death by her stepdaughter Jessica L. Parker. Christina leaves behind many relatives, friends and colleagues. The family will receive friends at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2011. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she was a member. Interment will be Friday, January 14, 2011 at 1 p.m. in the Crocketville Cemetery, Crocketville, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Care- Connection, which will be used to continue her work for community based senior citizen support and social worker scholarships, or to the charity of one's choice.
