Charlotte Stroud Kaye, 92, of St, Augustine, peacefully passed away on Oct. 3, 2008, in her home. She was a native of New Jersey and resided in St. Augustine since 1950. She performed on stage, screen and radio from the age of 3, commanding the role of Peggy, the little blond-haired girl in the "Our Gang" comedies, for a short time and later was a John Powers model in New York. She was an active member of the St. Augustine Little Theatre from 1953, becoming the director in 1957, and directed many widely acclaimed productions there. In 1954 Charlotte worked for Universal Studios as a local casting director for the film "Revenge of the Creature," filmed at Marine Studios, now Marineland. For several years she directed the "Voice of San Augustin," a four-day Easter festival pageant held on the fort green, and created and produced "Sound and Light," a weekly evening re-enactment at the Castillo de San Marcos. In 1956-57 she was the society editor at The St. Augustine Record, reporting on the social events and goings-on in the Old City. For the last 30 years she had been retired to her home in Lighthouse Park. Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Melissa Butcher Stuart; two brothers, Jim Rado and Ted Rado; and two grandsons, Jimmy Stuart and Matthew Stuart. There will be a private memorial service in late October in her garden for family and close friends. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those wishing to do so can make a contribution in her memory to Haven Hospice, 200 Southpark Blvd., Suite 207, St. Augustine, FL 32086. Craig Funeral Home, Memorial Park and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
