CHARLES "MAC"LEWIS McKENZIE, 91 LAKE ALFRED - "I will ransom them from power of the grave; I will redeem them from death". Hosea 13:14. A quiet man of God, Charles "Mac" Lewis McKenzie of Lake Alfred departed this earth and entered Heaven on October 31, 2009 due to heart failure. He joins his wife, Ethel Boswell McKenzie; his sister, Evelyn; and his brothers Gordon and Chester. Charles was the youngest of four siblings born to parents Charles Ellis McKenzie and Nancy Louveia Nolen McKenzie on July 30, 1918 in Buffalo Ridge, Patrick County, Virginia. He attended Blue Ridge Mission School and graduated from Emery and Henry College in 1940. He loved his country and proudly served in the Navy during WWII in the Philippines. After his discharge, he and Ethel made their home in Miami until they retired to Lake Alfred in 1972. Having a servant's heart, Mac was always active in many capacities at 79th Street and Miami Shores Baptist Churches and later, Inman Park Baptist, Winter Haven. One of his proudest achievements was rearing his three sons. Honoring his memory are Charles Lewis McKenzie, Jr. and wife, Janice of Raleigh, North Carolina; granddaughters Katie Leigh, Rachel Grey, and Emily Grey, David Walter McKenzie and wife Barbara of Lakeland. Grandchildren, Jessica Lee, Karen Elizabeth, Davis Wilson, and Gordon Wilson McKenzie of Lake Alfred. Pallbearers are Lewis McKenzie, David Mc-Kenzie, Gordon McKen-zie, and Davis McKenzie. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Lake Alfred with services to follow at 1 p.m. at the church. Burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Lake Alfred. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Lake Alfred, 280 E. Pierce St., Lake Alfred, FL., 33850.
