Bessie E. Robinson, 83 BRIDGTON – Bessie E. Robinson, 83, of Bridgton, died Feb. 19, 2006 at the Bridgton Hospital. She was born in Lovell on March 30, 1922, the daughter of Arthur L. and Nellie M. (Harmon) Witham. She was educated in local schools and graduated from Bridgton High School in 1940. She married Wendall Robinson in 1940. Bessie worked as a welder during World War II at the South Portland Ship Yard welding on Liberty Ships, later as a seamstress, a hairdresser at her own shop “The Clip Joint,” a waitress at the Dam Site Restaurant in Bridgton and most recently worked in the shoe shop in Bridgton. Bessie married Edmund Waterman on April 8, 1955; he died on Aug. 10, 1967. She married Wendall Robinson on Jan. 1, 1970; he died April 14, 1985. Bessie enjoyed quilting, stained glass, was an avid reader, was fastidious about her yard and was a great cook. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a major part of her life, and she especially enjoyed her heartfelt discussions with her granddaughters and niece Karen Walsh. She is survived by a son, Ronald W. Robinson and his wife Odette of Bridgton; a daughter Rowena Marcia and her husband David of Portland; five grandchildren Patrick Robinson of Florida, Marie Kushner of Massachusetts, Robin Dahms of Westbrook, Sonya Allen of Denmark and Jennifer Marshall of Cape Elizabeth; three great-grandchildren Christopher Rand of Bridgton, Anthony Dahms of Westbrook and Daniel Gaulik of Massachusetts; a niece, Karen Walsh of Massachusetts; and a nephew, Sam Walsh of Otisfield. She was predeceased by a son, Rick A. Robinson on Feb. 12, 1964; a brother, Anson L. Witham on Nov. 10, 1994; a sister, Jessie L. Walsh on Oct. 21, 1991; a grandson, Rick W. Robinson in Feb. 1967; a great-granddaughter, Brittany Hannah Dahms on Jan. 3, 2006; and a great-grandson, Cameron K. Dahms in 1988. Visiting hours will be held at the Raymond-Wentworth Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Bridgton on Wednesday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday Feb. 23 at 11 a.m. with Robin Edwards officiating.
