Austin Francis McGovern, 84, Sarasota, died March 9, 2005. He was born Aug. 29, 1920, in Elizabeth, N.J., and came to Sarasota in 1978 from Memphis, Tenn. He retired in 1978 as a Navy captain and was a veteran of World War II. He graduated from the Naval War College and received a master's degree from George Washington University. He was a member of the Naval Seabees and Retired Naval Officers, both of Sarasota, and Bent Tree Country Club Golf Club. He was a Catholic. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; a daughter, Penny Stelle of Philadelphia; a son, Robert A. of Henderson, Nev.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today, with services to follow, at Robarts Funeral Home. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
