MacFARLANE, ARTHUR D. - The death of Arthur "Art" Donald MacFarlane, of Saint John, husband of Rita (Belliveau) MacFarlane, occurred on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Oromocto, NB, on September 16, 1926 he was the son of the late John and Edna (Collins) MacFarlane. Art was a School Teacher at Simonds High School and St. Malachy's Memorial High School before he became Principal at First Aberdeen and later Forest Hills Middle School until his retirement. He loved to teach and was past president of District 20 (8) Teacher's Association, District 19 & 20 Principal and Vice Principal Association and the New Brunswick Retired Teacher's Association. Art was on the Board of Directors of the Saint John Boys and Girls Club for 12 years and was actively involved in the South End Day Care Center. A passionate curler, Art enjoyed many years as a member of Thistle St. Andrew Curling Club. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Donald (Karen) of Saint John; four daughters, Pamela Freeman (Bob) of Riverview, Maureen MacFarlane (Dan Ackerman) of Crossfield, AB, Monica Hatt (Brian) of Calgary, AB and Michelle MacFarlane (David Kersey) of Halifax, NS; one brother Allan MacFarlane of Toronto, ON; 12 grandchildren, Philip, Ryan and Patrick MacFarlane, Lysa, Jason and Nick Freeman, Blake, Janelle and Marcie Ackerman, Brianna and Lindsay Hatt and Jack Kersey; one great grandson, Colby Freeman and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, Brian in 1988. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday August 30, 2006 and Thursday, August 31, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Pius X Church, Somerset Street, Saint John on Friday, September 1, 2006 at 11:00 AM. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
