HORTON Ann Horton passed away peacefully in her home in Atlantic Beach on September 22nd surrounded by loved ones. Born in Shenandoah, Virginia on June 22, 1922, "Annie" made Atlantic Beach her home since 1997. A vital, active woman, she quickly made lasting friendships through her many activities including gardening, book clubs, and activities at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Jacksonville. Although she had failing health for the past four years, she continued to live a full life triumphing over her many aliments. Her accomplishments were many. She had a BA from James Madison College in Harrisonburg, Virginia and received her Masters in Social Work from Catholic University at the age of 51. She had a private practice as a clinical social worker for more than 25 years in Fairfax, VA. After a romantic courtship, Annie married Andrew S. Horton in 1943. During their married life as a military family, they were stationed in England and many areas throughout the United States including Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts and the Washington, D.C.area. Her legacy includes her beloved children, Andy Horton and Susanne Barker; her grandchildren Phil, Sam and Caroline Horton and Matthew, Jessica and Meredith Barker; and her great grandson, Dylan Jack Horton as well as her numerous dear friends in Virginia, Atlantic Beach and around the country and the world. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Oct. 8th at 10:00am at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Jacksonville, 7405 Arlington Expressway, Jacksonville.Memorial donations may be made in her name to theChildren and Family Foundation, Department of Graduate Psychology MSC 7401, James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA 22807.
