JOHNSTON, William Glenn Scott (Glenn) 2 October, 1944 29 September, 2011 Glenn died surrounded by his family, at home in Duncan, B.C. Glenn, whose father was Bill Johnston, one of the founders of Parker, Johnston Ltd., was born, was in the Sea Cadets as a teen-ager and completed high school in Victoria in 1962 in the first graduating class from Claremont Secondary School. After high school he attended the University of British Columbia, completing a Bachelor of Physical Education and Recreation in 1967 and a Master of Social Work in 1971. Among his career accomplishments, he joined what was then Malaspina College to set up the Recreation Program in 1973 and was Assistant Administrator of the Juan De Fuca Recreation Centre from 1984 to 1986. He returned to Malaspina College where he served first as Director of the Cowichan campus and later as an administrator on the Nanaimo campus until he retired as Vice President of Malaspina University in 1999. Throughout his career Glenn took a lively interest in, and worked closely with, First Nations peoples, serving, after his retirement, on the board of the Institute of Indigenous Government. Throughout his life Glenn was a keen boater who spent many of his happiest hours cruising the coastal waters of B.C. in the company of his wife, his children and his friends. In recent years he and his wife have spent several winter months at various places on the west coast of Mexico. Glenn was always a pillar of strength to all members of his extended family and he bore the decline and pain of cancer during his final months with dignity and a quiet courage that will always be remembered as an inspiration to all who knew and loved him. Glenn is survived by his wife, Donna, by his children, Adam (Shannon), Jessica (Steve), Damon (Megan) and Hayden (Evelyn), by six grandchildren and by his sister Margaret Desfosses (Les). Those who wish to pay their respects are invited to come by the wake and celebration of Glenn's life between 2:00 and 4:00 pm on Sunday October 23rd at the Duncan Community Lodge, 2244 Moose Road, Duncan. 639377
