MANCHESTER - Walter S. Wheeler, 84, of Manchester, passed away Oct. 23, 2014, at home following a period of failing health.Walter was born March 13, 1930, in Manchester, a beloved son of Burton and Louisa Harvey and had been a lifelong resident of this community.Walter was a graduate of Manchester Central High School as well as New Hampshire College.Prior to retirement, he was employed with Beneficial Finance Company in Dover. Later, Walter became employed with Guardian Credit Union, a company owned by St. Mary's Bank, where he retired as a vice president following 40 years of service.Walter very much enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a longtime member of Faith Baptist Church, Marine Corps League, American Legion, Masonic Fraternity, Manchester Historic Association and New Hampshire College Alumni Association.Walter was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict.Family includes his cousins, Bob Johnston of Manchester, Betty Chan of Providence, R.I., and Fay Major of Kittery, Maine. . SERVICES: Calling hours will be Tuesday, Oct. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Cate & Johnson Funeral Home, 573 Pine St., corner of Harrison Street, in Manchester.Funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church in Manchester. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester.Memorial contributions may be sent to the Faith Baptist Church, 53 Mammoth Road, Manchester, 03109.Cate & Johnson Funeral Service of Manchester is directing arrangements.
