WESTON _ Stanley March 21, 1918 - January 3, 2006 It is with great sadness that the family of Stan Weston announce his passing on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at the exceptional age of 87. Besides his loving and devoted wife of fifty-two years, Theresa, Stan is also survived by his four children and their spouses, Cam and Kim, Marya and Dean, Stephen and Shelagh, and Susie; and his six grandchildren, Dale, Erin, Paul, Laura, Katie, and Ian. Stan was a very devoted family man and was extremely proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. Stan served with distinction in World War II in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Italy with the British Eighth Army in the Second Corps, participating in the hard fought battles in Italy - most notably the Battle of Monte Cassino. These experiences left scars upon his heart to the end of his days. For his acts of personal sacrifice and acts of valour in the battlefields during 1939 to 1945 he was awarded with the Defence Medal, The Army Active Service WWII Medal, the 1939 to 1945 War Medal, the Italy Star, the 1939 to 1945 Star, the Jerusalem Cross, the Monte Cassino Cross, and the Cross of Valour. Stan immigrated to Canada after World War II and fulfilled various roles throughout Ontario and Southern Alberta, settling in Calgary in 1957. He found his place as a civil servant with the Department of National Defence where he served until his retirement. He was affectionately known by his peers at the First Service Battalion and Canadian Engineers as "Stan the Man". Stan, you can now join the friends you left back at Cassino for some Italian wine, and see your little sister Audrey. Your family here will miss you terribly. (A special message to all the magpies in Calgary - you can now relax). Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (10827 - 24 Street S.W.) today, January 9, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Prakash Basani, Presider. Graveside Service to follow in Holy Family Cemetery at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com . If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Calgary Poppy Fund, Room 109, 315 - 10 Avenue S.E., Calgary T2G 0W2 (Telephone 403-265-6304); Alberta Children's Hospital, No. 300, 1021 - 10 Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T2R 0B7 (Telephone 403-209-6134); or to a charity of your choice. His family would like to express a special thanks to the staff at the Rockyview and Peter Lougheed hospitals, and of the Mayfair Care Centre. In living memory of Stan Weston, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: 403-243-8200.
