Mr. S. Douglas James April 4, 1939 - September 11, 2008 - Samuel Douglas James The death of S. Douglas “Doug” James, husband of Eleanor (Campbell) James of Saint John West occurred on Thursday, September 11, 2008, at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness Born in Saint John in 1939, he was the son of the late Sam and Eleanor (Jennings) James. Doug played hockey and baseball for many years, helping the St. Peter’s Saints win the Maritime Baseball Championship in 1963. He was inducted into the Saint John Sports Hall of Fame with that team in 1997. He was a popular and well known woodworker, often seen at Rhoda’s and Tim Horton’s in St. George where he and Eleanor had resided for many years until moving to Saint John recently. Doug is survived by his wife Eleanor, his father-in-law Harry Campbell, six children Shelly (Robert) Finn, Nancy James, Julie (Brian) Carleton, Allan Hargrove, Linda Martin and Brian Hargrove (Patty Rathburn), twelve grandchildren including special grandson Allan (Sarah) Cantwell of Louisiana, brothers Bill, George (Irene), and Wayne (Ann), all of Saint John, numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. James was predeceased by a sister Mary. Resting at Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. (634-1701). Visiting at Fallsview on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 –4, and 7 – 9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held from Fallsview Chapel on Monday at 2 p.m. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Following the interment a time of fellowship will be held at the Fallsview Family Reception Centre.
