Obituary of Robert-H. Dwyer


Robert H. Dwyer FL/CORTLAND Robert H. Dwyer, 87, of Venice, FL, died on March 11, 2014. Services will be held at a later date at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL. A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes in Venice, FL. Robert was born April 29, 1926, in Cortland, NY, son of Thomas B. and Elsie L. Dwyer, of Glen Falls, NY. Robert enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 with an honorable discharge in 1946. He graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Glen Falls, NY, in 1943. He then went on to attend Skidmore Ext. College for 2 years, 1946-1948. He then attended and graduated from Bowling Green Univ. in Bowling Green, OH, in 1950. Robert worked for Prudential Life Ins. Co. from 1950-1953, owned General Ins. Agency from 1954-1975, was partner in Distributorship from 1975-1978 in Albany, NY, owner of Distributorship from 1978-1986. He then entered into the retail car wash business in 1986 and operated several businesses in the meantime. Robert retired in 2007 at the age of 81. Robert married Mary T. Dwyer on Sept. 12, 1948. He married Mary W. Kwasniewski-Irla at St. Peter's Church in Utica, NY, on Oct. 26, 1991. Robert is survived by his wife, Mary W., of Venice, FL; five children, Mary C. (Kurt) Kasson, of Austin, TX, Constance E. (Richard) Heiden, of Lancaster, PA, Carolyn E. Dwyer, of Kingston, NY, Robert H. Dwyer, II, of Astoria, NY, and Matthew P. Dwyer, of Oakland, CA; grandchildren, Jessica Gargano, of Saratoga, NY, Michael Gargano, of Saratoga Springs, NY, Everett, Hart and Degary Heiden, of Lancaster, PA, Michael (Sarah), of Highlands, NY, Dana Pistone, of Kingston, NY, Matthew Dwyer, II, Meaghan and Donovan Dwyer, of Brooklyn, NY; great-grandchildren, Zachary, of Waterbury, CT, and Giulietta Gargano, of Saratoga, NY; brothers, Edward D. (Dorothy) Dwyer, of Punta Gorda, FL, and David W. (Harriet) Dwyer, of Athens, GA; sisters-in-law, Theresa Dwyer, of Eaton, MA, Lottie Janowski, of Oneida, NY, Beverly Kwasniewski, of West Leyden, NY, and Eunice Kwasniewski, of Elkins, WV; brother-in-law, Anthony (Nina) Kwasniewski, of Boonville, NY; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his brother, Capt. Thomas L. Dwyer, USN, of St. Michaels, MD; sister, Joan Doyle, of Glens Falls, NY; and great-granddaughter, Chloe Ottman, of Waterbury, CT. Robert enjoyed golfing and touring model homes.
