Obituary of Robert-Bruce James


. JAMES, Robert Bruce . Born Oct. 21, 1953 at VGH to Don and Eleanor (Mitchell) James, attended Ladner Elementary and Delta Secondary Schools making many lifelong friends. Worked with cousin Gordon Wright of Delport Electric prior to many years in several Delta farming interests including John Malenstyn, Laurence and Tim Guichon and Ron & Brent Harris. He was a man who could solve any mechanical/ electrical problem and who could be trusted to complete the task with satisfaction. In 1957 diagnosed with congenital heart and in 1961 his aorta was repaired under the care of Dr. Robertson at VGH and he was the first child to survive the primitive heart lung pump. Deltans rallied to provide 50 pints of blood to prime that pump. His untimely death April 30, 2014 in the ICU at VGH aged 60 years promised the continuum of his life with his life enhancing and life giving gifts to five persons. Survived by sister Donalda James (Rick Ruegg) of Delta, and their four sons Richard, Allen (Jennelle), Michael (Heather) and Ruedy and his brother Paul (Maryanne) of Houston, BC and his two sons Matthew (Cezanne) and Travis (Sarah); and many cousins and their families in BC, Alberta, Ontario and California. Also remembered by many friends including Roy Botkin, Dan Britten, Richard Low, Ed McKim and Andrew Luymes and many business associates of the Delta. Donations to Heart and Stroke and BC Organ Transplant Society appreciated. Arrangements Delta Funeral Home and interment Boundary Bay Cemetery. A Celebration of Robert's life will be held later in the year. See notice in these pages in September.
