Obituary of Robert-A. Angell

Robert A. Angell, 75, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at the Hunterdon Medical Center. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at 3 p.m. at the Clinton Presbyterian Church, Center Street, Clinton, N.J. Born in New York City, June 16, 1935, Robert was the son of Robert A. Angell and Elizabeth Smith. He graduated from North Hunterdon Regional High School, Annandale, N.J., and Rutgers University, New Brunswick, N.J. Mr. Angell lived in Fanwood, N.J., Rochester, N.Y., and Newport News, Va., before returning to live in Hunterdon County in 1965. Mr. Angell, in 1969, co-founded with his wife of 42 years, Shirley Wolverton Angell, R&L DataCenters, Bloomsbury, N.J. He retired in 2000. Prior to that, he was a professor at Mercer County Community College, manager of Data Processing at Noland Company, and MIS specialist at Price Waterhouse and Chase Manhattan Bank. A member of the Lebanon Township Committee from 1967 to '68, Mr. Angell became mayor in 1969. He served on the Hunterdon Medical Center Board of Trustees, the Hunterdon Healthcare System Board and the Hunterdon Regional Community Health Board for 25 years (1975 to 2000). He was honored with the Spirit Award in 2003, highlighting his dedication to the HMC. An active member of North Hunterdon Rotary Club since 1971, he served as president and then treasurer from 1988 to 2000. He was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow in 1992. Mr. Angell was also a trustee for the Jennie M. Haver Scholarship Committee (1979 to 1985) and then an honorary trustee, director of the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce and on the Hunterdon County Library Commission, including chairman for a year. Mr. Angell's wife, Shirley Wolverton, died in 1997, and his brother, John Angell, in 1998. He is survived by two children, Rob Angell III and wife, Paula, of Sherborn, Mass., and Lynn Angell and husband, David Wiant, of Clinton, N.J., and his grandchildren, Robert Angell IV, Curtis Wiant, Mersina Angell, Sarah Wiant and Phoebe Wiant.
