Obituary of Richard-William Gates

Richard married Karel Lee Barnes in 1952. He passed into his Savior's embrace on Tuesday, July 22, 2014. He died peacefully of natural causes.Dick graduated from Wheaton College in 1950, served as a high school principal in NY until 1969, and as a professor and athletic trainer At Taylor University in Upland, IN until 1991. Richard and Karel retired to Melbourne in 1997 where they first attended Central Baptist Church and then First Baptist Church since 1999. Dick is survived by his sister, Marie Renner of Homer, NY, and her children and grandchildren; his wife, Karel (Barnes) Gates of Melbourne, and their four children. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.Dick was a member of Rotary Club International, YMCA, American Heart Assoc, and Boy Scouts of America.Memorial service, Tuesday, July 29th at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Melbourne. Richard's ashes will eventually be joined with Karel's and later spread in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate NY.
